Fishing

Fishing opportunities abound in the "Friendly City by the Sea" for kids of all ages, both by boat and on shore! What type of fish do you want to catch? Mullet? Flounder? Trout? King Mackerel or Red Drum?

There are three unique inlets to the ocean that are just a short distance from Downtown Swansboro – Queens Creek, Bear Creek, and the White Oak River.

Also good to know!

  • The Bogue Inlet has navigational aides to transit into the ocean.
  • The Bogue Inlet Pier is just a short drive away.
  • There are numerous nearshore and offshore wrecks, ledges and artificial reefs.
  • Surf Fishing is also very popular from Bear Island at Hammocks Beach State Park.

Boaters will enjoy easy access to Casper's Marina. Located directly on the Intracoastal Waterway in downtown Swansboro, Casper's Marina provides a wide variety of boating services. Gas up here before exploring the pristine waters surrounding Swansboro for a fun day of fishing.

Swansboro's local fishing charters are Pogie's, Nancy Lee Fishing Charters and Instigator Fishing & Diving Charters. Give them a call and they will get you out on the water.

And don't forget you can get a line wet right off the dock at Swansboro's Bicentennial Park and the Main Street Dock.  Just don't get too distracted by the views!

Don't get caught with too many fish or ones that are too little...make sure you know the current size and creel limits. For more information call the NC Division of Marine Fisheries at (252) 726-7021 or (800) 682-2632.
